Week 22 & 23: Life of a Software but 5-9

Week 22 and 23 have been pretty busy in terms of work. New bugs appear every day 😦

Dance Practice

I’ve performed with Modu Dance Crew for the first time! I performed in the song Focus by Hearts2Hearts. In addition to that, the video for my first cover (unofficial due to quality issues) Blue Valentine by NMIXX.
Although I’m a bit disappointed that I’m not yet on the official channel, I’m very grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get myself involved in more covers!!

Figure Skating

I invited skating w/ my coworkers! It was super fun!

I’m currently trying to learn how to do a back spin and a sit spin but they are definitely not easy… I’m hoping to enroll in some classes to get the learning going, but we’ll see… (it’s so cold outside…)

Tutoring

I’m DONEE (for now)!!

I applied for more tutoring roles outside of Teach for America. Although I loved tutoring for Teach for America, I wanted to teach a larger variety of subjects off work hours. I’m not sure if I’ll get the job, but we’ll see…

Volunteering

I joined Origami for Good a while ago! I have folded a cumulative of 540 origami pieces over the course of the past 3 weeks :-0

I’ve folded stars, hearts, bookmarks, various birds, some sea animals, shirts, mushrooms, butterflies, and paper cranes! It’s been a relaxing but meaningful activity to do during my down time!

Gaming

I started a Minecraft Server w/ my colleagues so that’s been super fun! I think I’ve been on the server the most? I think I’m on it almost every day towards the second half of the week haha

Cooking/Baking

I feel like I’ve been cooking a lot but at the same time there are no new recipes so it also feels like I haven’t been cooking at all…

I’ve been batch cooking a little bit, but also failed haha.

I’ve never done hot pot before on my own so I got a hot pot kit but I had no ingredients for the sauce so I just ate bland tasting hot pot toppings… That was an unfortunate fail, but I asked my hot pot master friend and will definitely be purchasing her secret ingredients that’ll hopefully make my hot pot more edible.

On the other hand, I did succeed in batch cooking Japanese Curry! I was running out of rice so I froze my leftover curry into my souper cubes! I got more rice and reheat my frozen curry and it tasted delicious (especially w/ kimchi).

As for baking, I baked the peppermint chocolate bread from Trader Joe’s and brought it to work to share w/ my colleagues 🙂

Adulting

A lot of doctors and a dentist visit… It was my first time scheduling a checkup for both doctor’s and dentist’s visits. It’s definitely a learning curve figuring out what insurance terms means like deductibles, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximum, in-network vs out-of-network, and what’s an HSA eligible expense. I thought I figured it out until I got a surprise doctor’s bill haha (thankfully I planned for this unexpected expense). No one taught me (or anyone really) what these are, and it seems like stuff like this and taxes are all just “figure it out yourself” type of duties…

That’s it for Week 22 & 23! Next week is the last Saturday of 2025 (time flies :0), so I’ll definitely post next week instead of the week after 🙂
